Obituary For Craig P. Gossen

Craig P. Gossen, 73, of Seguin, Texas, passed away on May 23, 2026, at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center following a brief battle with cancer.

Craig was born on August 21, 1952, in Waukegan, Illinois, to Vernon H. Gossen and Mary Jean (Sharon) Gossen. He graduated from Bradford High School in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in 1970.

From 1972 to 1976, Craig proudly served in the United States Air Force as a Missile System Analyst and was a member of the 314th Combat Support Group (SAC) in Little Rock, Arkansas. His service to his country remained a source of pride throughout his life.

In 1974, he married his high school sweetheart, Doreen Polso of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Together they built a life centered on family, raising two children, a son and a daughter, and sharing a love of travel, camping, fishing, and exploring new places.

After completing his military service, Craig attended the Missouri Institute of Technology, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electronic Engineering in 1976. He spent more than twenty years working in the semiconductor industry and later continued his career with Pearson Scoring Center until his retirement.

Craig was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who took pride in everything he did. A "Mr. Fix-It," he was the kind of person family and friends called when something needed fixing. If he didn't already know how to repair it, he would research it until he figured it out. His strong work ethic, determination, and willingness to help others were hallmarks of his character.

Family was always at the center of Craig's life. He spent countless hours coaching Little League and never missed a baseball game, dance recital, or competition. He became an expert on ballet and dance simply because he wanted to support the people he loved. In 2015, he became a grandfather, and his granddaughter quickly became the pride and joy of his life. He cherished every moment spent with her and took great pleasure in sharing his knowledge, skills, and life lessons.

Craig had a special love for animals. Though he always loved dogs, later in life he discovered an affection for cats as well. He never wanted a stray cat to go hungry and often made sure they received the care they needed, including veterinary treatment and spaying or neutering. One particularly special cat, known for having only one ear, held a special place in his heart, and Craig lovingly cared for her through many health challenges.

Craig is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Doreen Gossen of Seguin, Texas; his son, Kyle Gossen and wife Ashley of New Braunfels, Texas; his granddaughter, Elouise Gossen; his daughter, Kara Garrett and husband William of Frisco, Texas; his sister, Sherry Jay of Kenosha, Wisconsin; his brother-in-law, Douglas Polso and wife Carol of Kenosha, Wisconsin; and his nephews and niece.

He was preceded in death by his father, Vernon H. Gossen, and his mother, Mary Jean (Sharon) Gossen.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and caregivers who cared for Craig throughout his illness and hospitalization.

A service with military honors will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 2:15 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Family and friends are invited to arrive by 2:00 p.m.
