Dean Buell Speaks, 67, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Dean was born on May 12, 1959. He found joy in the things he loved—his family, his music, and his beloved dog, Chico. Music was a constant in his life and brought him comfort, happiness, and countless memories. He especially enjoyed spending time with family and looked forward to family gatherings, holidays, and cookouts.

Dean enjoyed sharing stories, visiting with loved ones and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.

Dean is survived by his children, Christy Speaks and fiancé Richard Payton of Lockhart, Texas; Chandra Charles of San Marcos, Texas; Dustin Speaks of Sylvester, Texas; and Devin Speaks and wife Brandi of Pawnee, Illinois. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Dean "Dick" Speaks, and his mother, Norma Jean Speaks, both of Loami, as well as many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and other family members.

A celebration of Dean's life will be held on June 28, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. in McMahan, Texas. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and honor his life.

A second celebration of life will be held on July 18, 2026, at a location to be determined in Loami, Illinois, followed by a graveside service and interment at Sulphur Springs Cemetery, where Dean will be laid to rest with his parents.

Though Dean will be deeply missed, his family finds peace in knowing that he is no longer suffering and has been reunited with his parents and other loved ones who went before him. We take comfort in imagining him surrounded once again by the family he cherished so much. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
