Obituary For Ebony Monai Joyner

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ebony Monai Joyner, who left this world far too soon on January 7, 2026, at the age of 34. Born on January 20, 1991, in Anchorage, Alaska, Ebony's life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and an indomitable spirit that touched the lives of many.

Ebony grew up with a heart full of dreams and a passion for basketball, a sport in which she excelled and became a phenomenon. Throughout her high school years at Akins and Hays High Schools, she single-handedly carried her teams to numerous tournament championships, becoming a beacon of inspiration for her peers. Her love for the game was matched only by her love for music, where she displayed her genius through words and beats, captivating everyone around her.

Raised by her loving parents, Russell Joyner II and Demetres Carter, Ebony was a daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin and beloved friend who embodied kindness and an open-minded approach to life. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents- Mr. and Mrs. Russell G. and Mattie R. Joyner and her maternal grandfather Mr. Leonard Carter.

Her legacy of love and strength lives on in the hearts of her beloved brothers: Russell G. Joyner III of Houston, TX, Christian R. Joyner of Seguin, TX, and Demetrius Joyner of San Antonio, TX; her aunts Terry A. Joyner of White Plains, NY, Shannon R. Joyner of New Braunfels, TX, Jami P. Joyner of Houston, TX and Tiffany Pruitt of Austin, TX; her stepmother Ellie Joyner of Lockhart, TX; her nephews Orion Joyner of Buda, TX, and Deuce Joyner of San Antonio, TX; her sister-in-law Daziah Joyner of San Antonio, TX; her grandmother Mrs. Alice Carter of Austin, TX; and her uncles Leonard Carter of Austin, TX, and Xavier Carter of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves a host of cherished relatives and friends who will honor her memory forever.

Ebony was not only known for her athletic and musical talents but also for her commitment to giving back to the community. She actively engaged with women's shelters and youth programs, demonstrating her compassion and desire to uplift those around her. Her employment history reflected her integrity and high morals, serving as an outstanding supervisor and leader in the retail industry.

A graduate of Hays High School, Ebony's journey was one of grit, perseverance, and a relentless drive to succeed, regardless of the circumstances she faced. Her determination was infectious, and her energy lit up every room she entered. She was known for her resilience, her forgiving nature, and her ability to see the good in everyone.

Tragically, her life was cut short due to a car accident, leaving an irreplaceable void in the lives of her family and friends. Ebony's funeral services will be held on January 16, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at Legends Tri-County Funeral Home (https://maps.app.goo.gl/RjhySjSgft1aBXc76 ) located at 10935 N. State Highway 123, Seguin, TX 78155. As we gather to celebrate her life, we invite all who knew and loved her to join us in honoring her memory.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to pay tribute to Ebony's legacy are encouraged to make donations to organizations that reflect her spirit of compassion and service, including Women Of Unity, Empowering Women Out of Prison, and SAFE Austin.

As we navigate this difficult time, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who has supported our families. Your love and kindness mean the world to us. Ebony Monai Joyner will forever be remembered for her vibrant spirit, her unwavering love, and her remarkable ability to uplift those around her. Rest in peace, dear Ebony; you will be missed but never forgotten.
