Obituary For Eddie "Craig" Barclay
After a courageous six-year battle with carcinoid cancer, Eddie "Craig" Barclay was called home
to be with his Lord and Savior. He passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025, surrounded
by his family, at the age of 65.
Born on February 21, 1960, in Huntsville, Texas, to Margaret 'Joyce' (Wiley) Barclay and
Maurice 'Ace' Barclay, Craig moved to Deer Park, Texas, as a child and spent his formative
years there. In his teens and twenties, he developed a passion for golf, becoming highly
competitive and honing a skill that would stay with him throughout his life. Craig continued his
education at Southwest Texas State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Business
Management. His time there also led to lasting friendships, especially through his membership in
Phi Kappa Psi fraternity.
In 1985, Craig married Shelly (Parker) Barclay, and together they raised two wonderful sons,
Zachary and Grant. Family was at the heart of everything Craig did, and he spent countless hours
at batting cages, sports fields, gyms, and hunting blinds, creating treasured memories with his
boys. His love for his family was unwavering, and he was especially overjoyed by the arrival of
his two grandchildren, Ava and Parker, who brought immeasurable joy to his life.
A man of integrity and determination, Craig was known for his strong work ethic. In both his
personal and professional life, he was a 'get the job done' kind of person—a no-nonsense,
results-driven individual who commanded respect and admiration. Craig built a successful career
in the insurance industry, where his expertise and commitment earned him the trust of colleagues
and clients alike. His legacy includes not only his professional achievements but also the many
friendships he forged throughout his career.
Craig’s faith was always an important part of his life, but during his cancer journey, that faith
deepened in profound ways. His strength and grace through adversity became a living testimony
to his trust in God. In those years, Craig found new purpose in sharing his faith with
others—offering encouragement, hope, and humor to everyone he met. His openness and honesty
touched lives in ways he never expected, and his courage inspired all who walked alongside him.
Craig was also known for his remarkable sense of humor. Even in difficult moments, he had a
way of bringing laughter to those around him. He often referred to himself as “the coolest dude
in town” or “half a man, half amazing”—phrases that perfectly captured his wit, confidence, and
infectious spirit. That humor was one of his greatest gifts, a reflection of his optimism and his
ability to find joy in every circumstance.
Craig is survived by his beloved wife, Shelly (Parker) Barclay; sons Zachary and Grant Barclay;
parents Margaret 'Joyce' Barclay and Maurice 'Ace' Barclay; brother Jeffrey 'Wade' Barclay;
the mother of his grandchildren, Sarah Smith; and his cherished grandchildren, Ava and Parker
Barclay. He was preceded in death by grandparents W. D. and Bess Wiley and Erva Vae and
Eddie Bignar. He also leaves behind a host of loving relatives and friends.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the angels at Hope Hospice, whose
compassionate care made an immeasurable difference during Craig's final days. Their kindness
and support provided comfort during a difficult time, and we will be forever grateful for their
help.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Hope Hits Harder Cancer
Foundation at www.hopehitsharder.com.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those
who love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9
