Obituary For Ina Lee Highsmith Waite
Ina Lee Highsmith was born to Lee and Gertrude Highsmith on October 26th 1936 in Utopia, Texas.
Ina Graduated Utopia High school where she was a cheerleader, Homecoming Queen and on the Basketball team. She shared many stories with friends and family of her adventures traveling to other cities to play games.
A couple years after graduation she moved to the big city, San Antonio.
This is where she met a charming fellow named Homer Waite (a Yankee from Orchard Park, New York). They married in 1958 and were married 54 years when the Lord called Homer home.
Ina was saddened not to be able to have children, but true to her pioneer upbringing she made a way and adopted 2 children; Krista in 1963 and Michael in 1965.
She went to nursing school after the kids were a bit older and worked as a cardiac/telemetry nurse for over 20 years. No doubt making a difference in 100's of lives and surely saving quite a few.
She and Homer created a beautiful life together for their family with so much fun, camping and travel; especially trips to Utopia for family reunions.
In 1983 and 1989 her 2 favorite people were born, Audra and Jarred, her beloved grandchildren. She was an integral part of their upbringing, instilling that pioneer, "get it done" spirit into both.
Ina was an incredibly strong, kind and helpful woman, fiercely defending those she loved.
Michael and I are so grateful that God chose her to be our mom.
Ina entered Eternal Rest on April 20th 2026.
She will be missed by so many but we have Joy knowing that she is surrounded by the incredible Love of God. She is pain free and enjoying the company of her husband and so many family members that are already there.
