Obituary For Jack Hubert McGee, Jr.

Jack Hubert McGee, Jr. was born at Holloman Air Force Base in El Paso Texas on June 13, 1958. He went to school in Alamagordo New Mexico and got a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Theory and Composition from Eastern New Mexico University in 1981. His mother said that he was very interested in music from a really young age.

He was a drummer, guitarist, luthier and computer geek. He was so talented, but also very humble. He began recording original music, as well as the music of his friends, from the late 1970’s up until the mid 2010’s. He also played drums in many different bands, since his early days in Alamagordo and Portales, and throughout his time living in the Austin area.

“People like Mickey don’t come around but once in a lifetime” said one of his dear friends. Another friend gave him the title of Keeper of the Flame. He had such a positive impact on so many lives in his 67 years on this planet. Especially all the wonderful musicians he worked with over the years. He was an admirable man and I found this Hallmark plaque, hanging in his home, that describes him pretty well.

An Admirable Man

If a man is honest with others

And with himself…

If he receives gratefully and gives quietly…

If he is gentle enough to feel

And strong enough to show his feeling…

If he is slow to see the fault of others

But quick to discover their goodness…

If he is cheerful in difficult times

And modest in success…

If he does his best to be true to his beliefs…

Then he is truly an admirable man.

Mickey was preceded in death by his parents Jack Hubert McGee and Alzada Joyce Hidler. Her parents were Alvis Hidler and Vinnia Mae Townsend. He is survived by four cousins named Shelly Caraway, William Joe Franks, Jr., Joyce Franks Williams and JoAnna Tarr. He also has many second and third cousins, on his mom’s side.
