Obituary For John Roland Brose

November 1, 1932 – September 23, 2025

John Roland Brose, 92, of San Marcos, Texas, passed away peacefully at Sage Springs
Assisted Living Center on September 23, 2025.

Born on November 1, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas, John moved with his family to Wichita at
the age of two. He graduated from East High School in 1950 and earned a degree in
Petroleum Engineering from the University of Kansas in 1955. It was during his time at KU
that he met the love of his life, Sharon Parker, at the campus hospital—she with a cold, he
with a football injury. He told a friend that day, 'I just met the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen.'
They were married in 1953, and their love story continued for more than seven decades.

John proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for three years, completing his pilot training in
Texas. He especially enjoyed flying F-86 aircraft, and often said it was one of the biggest
thrills of his life—second only to having a family.

He went on to build a distinguished 40-year career as a petroleum engineer and operations
manager, working primarily with Shell Oil. His work took him and his family across Texas,
Oklahoma, California, and Louisiana.

A lifelong baseball fan, John played as a pitcher and first baseman in both high school and
college. He followed the game closely throughout his life and passed on his passion for
baseball to his children and grandchildren.

John was also an avid skier and skied well into his 80s, primarily in the Park City, Utah area,
where he had a home. He also loved golf and was especially proud of the three hole-in-ones
he achieved while living on the Greentree Golf Course in Midland, Texas.

After retirement, John and Sharon embraced their shared love of travel, making over 20 trips
to Europe together. John meticulously planned each adventure, often arranging home
exchanges that allowed them to experience life as locals in cities across the continent. His
curiosity, organization, and zest for exploration turned each journey into a rich and memorable
experience.

John is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Brose; their three children: Susan (Jon) McKeon
of Tucson, Arizona, Tom (Cheryl) Brose of San Marcos, Texas, and Greg (Lucy) Brose of
Evanston, Wyoming; and seven grandchildren: Mike (Nikki) McKeon, Katie McKeon, Katie
(Mark) Squyres, Sarah (Reagan) Squyres, Dan Brose, John Brose, and Margot (Brian)
Maxwell. He is also survived by one great-grandchild, Ellie McKeon. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Fred and Mildred Brose, and his brother, Jim Brose.

John will be remembered for his deep love of family, unwavering loyalty, generosity, great
sense of humor, and passion for learning and adventure. He passed down his love of skiing
and golf to his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories on the slopes and golf
course alike.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice Care as well as the staff of Sage Springs for
their kindness and care. They would also like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to
Emily for her extraordinary compassion and dedication.
