Kenneth Edward Cummins, 90, of San Antonio, Texas passed away peacefully on February 3, 2026 surrounded by those who loved and cherished him.

He was born on February 7, 1935, in Yale, Illinois to Erna and Ercie Cummins. Ken grew up with strong Midwestern values that guided him throughout his life—hard work, devotion to family, and quiet integrity.

Ken was proud of his service in the United States Navy and spoke fondly of his time abord the USS Jenkins, a Fletcher-class destroyer in service from 1942 to 1969. No doubt, his years in the Navy contributed to his will to overcome multiple life challenges, his hunger for self-reliance, and a portion of his “rougher edges”.

He was a kind and fierce friend. His steady presence, warm heart, and unwavering commitment to those he loved stood out as hallmarks of his life. He valued time spent with those he loved above all else and took pride in acts of quiet, selfless service. Whether sharing stories, offering guidance, or simply enjoying time together, he created lasting memories for those fortunate enough to know him.

He is survived by his step-daughter, Cheri Mayer, and his grandchildren: Jennifer Cummins, Johnathan Cummins, and Abigail Cummins. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carrol Ann Cummins; his step-son, Chester Tibbetts; and his sons, Alvin Cummins, John Cummins, and Kenneth Cummins Jr.

A service will be held at Dodd Field Chapel, 5584 Dodd Blvd, Fort Sam Houston, Texas 78234 on February 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service for friends and family.

Ken’s life was a testament to resilience, love, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by those who knew and loved him.
