It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ruben Urrutia, who left us peacefully on December 30, 2025, in his beloved hometown of San Marcos, Texas. Born on January 4, 1963, Ruben’s life, although short, was filled with warmth, laughter, and a profound love for his family and community.

Ruben was the cherished son of Florentino and Juana Urrutia and is now reunited in spirit with his beloved siblings: Jesse, Matilde, Pedro, Juan Jose (Pepe), Roberto (Bobby), and Helen Urrutia. He is survived by his loving family, who carry on his legacy of kindness and creativity. His son, Micheal Urrutia, Chris Urrutia and daughter-in-law Maryann Urrutia, along with his daughters, Roxanne Urrutia and Son-in-law Jesse Lopez, Francesca Gonzalez, and Ruby Urrutia, will remember him for his gentle spirit and the joy he brought into their lives.

Ruben was a proud grandfather, and he took immense joy in his granddaughters, Maliya and Samantha Urrutia, and his grandsons, Micheal and Anthony Urrutia, as well as Jesse, Romeo, and Eric Lopez. Each of them holds dear memories of his love and the time they spent together.

Ruben will also be deeply missed by his brother, Florentino (Chico) Urrutia, and his sisters, Maria Urrutia, Janie Zavala, Gloria Urrutia, Angie Leal, and Yolanda Sanchez, who will remember his laughter and the joy he brought to family gatherings.

An artist at heart, Ruben had a unique gift for drawing and a passion for laying down rhythms on the drums, which he shared with family and friends. His artistic spirit will live on in the creativity he inspired in his granddaughter Maliya Urrutia.

A service to celebrate Ruben’s life will take place on January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Legends Tri County Funeral Home, where Pastor Sam Montoya will lead us in honoring Ruben's memory.

In his passing, Ruben leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and unwavering support for his family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his memory will forever be a guiding light for his loved ones.

Rest in peace, dear Ruben. You will be missed more than words can express.
